Gardening for Pollinators- A Walk and Talk - San Jose

  • Martial Cottle Park - UC Master Gardener area 5283 Snell Avenue San Jose, CA, 95136 United States (map)

Join us at the Master Gardener Demonstration and Education Center at Martial Cottle Park for a garden tour and presentation on gardening for pollinators. California native bees, European honey bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies are great pollinators and are fascinating to watch in the garden. Providing pollinator gardens in our urban areas will help their survival. This garden talk will teach you the basics of how to create a pollinator garden in your own yard. We will tour our native, habitat, and pollinator demonstration gardens to observe the bees, hummingbirds, and butterflies that are active at this time of year. We will also view and discuss the best California native plants and low-water Mediterranean plants in our garden that provide good sources of nectar and pollen throughout the year for these important insects and hummingbirds.

Participants should wear closed-toed shoes, layered clothing, and a hat, as the class is held outdoors in our Habitat Garden. A refillable water bottle is recommended. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to walk from the parking lot or Chynoweth Avenue to the Master Gardener's parcel at the park and sign in.

Free! No registration required.
